For some reason, our bedroom seems to always get pushed on the back burner. In the past, if I had a little extra money to spare for decor, then it would go to either the living room or the dining room, one of the main rooms in our house.
With this year though, I’ve decided to place our bedroom as a priority. It is our own special place in this world and I really want it to become a soothing haven for us both.
Because we are constantly moving due to the military, I’ve decided not to invest in any new furniture until we get out in a couple of years. Our furniture has gotten pretty beat up in our last couple of moves, so it just doesn’t make any sense to get anything new right now.
So this is where accessories comes into play!
Accessories are small things that can deliver a big punch. It is what puts your house to the next extra step in turning it into a home. Don’t have a large budget? Then accessories are your friend.
I’ve been searching for a new piece for above our bed and finally found this artwork a couple months ago at a local antique shop. I love how small it is so that it isn’t terribly loud, but still makes a statement. Plus, it reminds me of Pride and Prejudice for some reason, which is my favorite book. 🙂
Eventually, I hope to replace this wooden bed with an ivory upholstered headboard. The bedding is old from Pottery Barn. I’ve got my eye on this scalloped duvet, hopefully in the future.
My goal for our bed is simplicity. I love a bunch of pillows as much as the next person, but I did not want to go overboard with the throw pillows. All white bedding is my favorite, so having only a small amount of color in the front was what I was going for.
I found this floral block pillow at Jenny Steffens Hobick’s store, which is one of my absolute favorite places to shop. I plan on changing it throughout the seasons just to keep it fresh. The monogram pillow is custom.
We’ve had the same bedroom lamps ever since we got married. They were ones that honestly didn’t match my decor style anymore and they had gotten scratched up in the move, so we were overdue for new ones!
I have absolutely loved these crystal lamps from Pottery Barn for years, but they were too much for my budget. One day, I just happened to check on their website and saw that they were having 40% off your entire order, so I couldn’t resist. Best purchase I’ve made in awhile because these are timeless and I know they will not go out of style anytime soon.
I’m afraid they no longer carry these (sorry!). Here is one from Simon Pearce that is similar, but it is pricey.
I’ve also slowly been adding nice frames to our collection. This one is from Cavallini & Co. and they are sold on Amazon. I’m obsessed with them! I just love how it has made an impact on my nightstand. This one is next on my list.
I normally like to have fresh flowers in this small ginger jar, but completely did not prepare in time for this post. I’m a bad blogger. 🙈
The last thing that I have purchased for this room lately is this Louis mirror. I found mine on One Kings Lane, but you can also find it here. With gold mirrors, you have to be careful because sometimes they can just look tacky instead of classy. This one was the best price for the shade that I was looking for!
These changes were all relatively small changes, but they have added such a difference to the way our bedroom feels now. This just goes to show that you can change up a look without changing every aspect of the room.
Have a room refresh that you are wanting to do? Tell me about it in the comments!
