Would a trip to London be complete without a visit to Buckingham Palace? I don’t think so!
I was super excited to visit because (obviously) the Queen lives here! While we didn’t see any royal sightings, we did see the Prime Minister leaving the palace so that was pretty cool.
Here are some of my favorite photos from this part of our trip. Tips for your trip are included below!
Also, I apologize in advance for how lengthy this post will be. I just couldn’t limit the amount of pictures for this one! 😉
But anyways, back to Buckingham Palace!
Home of the monarchy of Britain since Queen Victoria’s reign. The balcony where the family makes their appearances.
It was built in 1703 and was originally labeled as just Buckingham House. Queen Victoria renamed it to palace later on.
I think Queen Victoria’s label is much more appropriate.
I do have to say though that it was smaller than I expected. I think that is normal though, because I felt the exact same way about the Eiffel Tower (post to come!) and that is certainly not a small structure. 😉
I couldn’t get enough of all the gold. It was everywhere! Perfectly fitting for royalty.
And all of the details.
Loved this little lion, guarding the Queens and Kings!
Right in front of the palace is the Victoria memorial.
The Victoria memorial was constructed in the early 1900s in honor of Queen Victoria.
These are the gates next to the palace.
It is labeled the Canada Gate
Tips for Your Trip:
1. Get there early! If you have read my other London posts, then it certainly seems like I am repeating myself here. This is so true though, for all of the main monuments at least. See the 6th photo? We got up at around 8 and went to see the palace first before checking out the Victoria memorial. This photo was taken about an hour after we were there, and you can already see how many people were there already!
2. The palace is not open except for when the Queen is not in residence. This generally happens August and September. We are planning a trip to go see the inside because we did not get to do so this trip.
3. We also did not do changing of the guard because honestly, it just didn’t seem like a big deal to me. I don’t regret that either. If you do want to see that though, look up the schedule online and go early to get a good spot!
