Ah, dinner parties. To some, they are a great way to spend an evening. To others, it is something that makes them nervous the minute they decide to host one.
Even if you are one of the latter above, it doesn’t have to always be this way! The more you host, the more easy it becomes. To get to that point though, I am sharing 5 of my tips that always seem to work when I decide to host someone at my home. I hope they help you as well!
1. Serve foolproof recipes.
When having someone over, whether it be dinner or just appetizers, you want to make sure that the food will be good. There is nothing worse than a dinner party that has bad food! Pick out some of your favorite recipes that you know like the back of your hand. You could also pick out some new recipes a few weeks in advance so that you have plenty of time to try them out and work out the kinks.
2. Pick one “special showstopper.”
By this, I mean a special food item that your guests will “ooh” and “aah” over. This could be the main course, such as a perfectly roasted chicken, or a great side, such as truffled mac and cheese. For our dinner party, I decided on molten cakes. They were a hit!
3. Have a drinks station.
When guests come to my home, I always want them to feel like they are right at home. One way to do this is to have a drinks station set up. Have glasses already out on a tray with an opened bottle of wine so that they can help themselves!
4. Make as many things ahead of time.
Seriously, this will help you so much. If you can find a way to make it ahead of time, do it! This could be as simple as just having it all assembled and ready to pop into the oven, or just having everything chopped and ready to go so that you can begin cooking asap.
5. When in doubt, plan it out.
One of the things that I started doing for my very first dinner party was creating a schedule. This helped me so much with my anxiety towards the whole thing! What I did was I would take each dish, write down the prep time, the cooking time, and then create a schedule of what I should be doing at each certain time to make sure everything was ready. If you are Type A like me, then you will love this and it will make you so comfortable.
Luckily for you, I decided to create a handy dandy printable for this that I will share tomorrow!
Have any of your own tips? I would love to hear it!
